Q: From what age should we start breast exams?
A: The real question should be why we need to examine our breasts. The answer is because of Breast Cancer, which is the most common cancer in women. However, if diagnosed early and correctly, it can be 100% curable.
Since my goal is a 100% cure of breast cancer, I recommend that all women perform monthly self-exam from an early age. The exam should be done during the second week of their menstrual cycle. From the age of 20 onwards, women can start with Breast Ultrasound and anytime from 30-35, with 3-D Mammography & Ultrasound.
In special cases, Breast MRI could also be performed. These examinations should always be performed by and evaluated by radiology experts, not by anyone who decides to do so.
Q: Is mammography safe, or does it cause cancer?
A: Mammography is very safe and saves lives!
Although ionizing radiation in high doses can be harmful, the amount used by modern 3-D Mammography is very low. Moreover, the older the woman is, the less the effect of radiation.
FAQ
Q: Will mammography and ultrasound detect all types of breast cancers?
A: Unfortunately, no. Mammography and ultrasound can detect most cancers, but not all. That is why it is essential to perform monthly self-exams and annual mammography and breast ultrasound control so those few missed cancers, or any new ones, are diagnosed at an early stage.
Q: Why aren’t you in GESY?
A: I believe in a well-structured system that is patient-oriented, with quality controls and a primary aim to provide High-Quality, Sincere Healthcare provision.
Unfortunately, this is not what we see with the current GESY. Above that, as I mentioned before, Breast Cancer affects women of all ages, and Early Diagnosis is the only way to cure it. Unfortunately, GESY does not cover Breast Screening at all.
